Nate Diaz is plotting his UFC return - but wants to take on Conor McGregor's conquerer Dustin Poirier.
Diaz has been out of action for over a year but is now back in training.
His last appearance in the Octagon was in November 2019 when he lost to Jorge Masvidal.
But despite losing for the 12th time in his professional career Diaz has stoked the fire and claimed he would beat Poirier.
The American, who has beaten and lost to McGregor, posted a picture on his Instagram of him squaring up to Poirier.
He included the caption: "I'm training to whoop your ass next. Be about it, don't talk about it."
Diaz has been touted as a potential opponent for McGregor, but seems to have his sights elsewhere.
Speaking after his defeat the Irishman was defiant and insisted he would assess his options once he had a chance to review things.
I'll certainly regroup and pick myself up; get up off the floor and go again," said the 32-year-old.
"Styles make fights, and there's many great stylistic match-ups out there. Myself and Dustin are 1-1, myself and Nate are 1-1. There's many good match-ups for me."
UFC chief Dana White however appeared to question McGregor's motivation casting doubt over his next move.
"Look, there is two ways this goes - hungrier or I'm done, he's got the money," he said in the post-fight press conference.
"This is like Rocky III, when you get offered a 300 foot yacht, it is tough to be a savage when he is living like he is.
"When he was a young kid he was hungry, now he has got everything he ever wanted so I don't know, it goes this way or that way."
