Nate Diaz hints UFC career is over as he struggles to find rival for final fight

Nate Diaz has hinted at his potential retirement from the UFC after admitting he is unable to find a suitable opponent for his final bout

The UFC star has just one fight remaining on his current deal after a stellar career dating back to 2007.

He has faced a lack of offers for his return at welterweight after suffering a points defeat to Leon Edwards in June.

Diaz has now hinted at hanging up his gloves in potential retirement after his cryptic post on social media suggested he was unable to find a suitable opponent.

He wrote on Twitter : "There’s nobody else."

Diaz has been naturally faced call outs from contenders including Vicente Luque and rising star Khamzat Chimaev.

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz has fuelled speculation that Luque could challenge Diaz further when he replied to the American's tweet confirming his availability.

He tweeted: "Vicente Luque doesn't have a fight."

Diaz is considering fighting out the last bout of his UFC deal and moving on to pastures new after a successful career in the sport.

However Luque could be a live opponent having defeated Michael Chiesa and Tyron Woodley consecutively which has seen him rise to fourth in the welterweight rankings.

Diaz has also hinted at the possibility of facing former two-time rival Conor McGregor in a huge trilogy but it looks unlikely with McGregor unavailable until next summer as his recovery from injury continues.

But the Brazilian star Luque has admitted he is staying in training to prepare for a showdown with Diaz and is keen to make the fight after Diaz's previous agreement on Twitter.

“If it’s up to me, it’s happening,” Luque told MMA Fighting’s podcast Trocação Franca. “I’m already training with that mindset, I’ll be ready for December.

"The UFC knows I’m interested, that I’m in. Nate seems to be in as well, at least he said that on Twitter, so, to me, it’s a deal. Just give me the date, I’m already training for it. I’ll be prepared.

"Nate has great cardio. The longer the fight goes the better for him, so it’s a perfect guy to test me, to see if I can go 10 rounds. I want the challenge, and that motivates me a lot.

“The reason I fight is because I love this sport and I don’t want easy fights, to fight in my comfort zone. I want to challenge myself, I want the toughest fights, and I think Nate is a great fight right now."

The Stockton native is planning for life outside of the UFC and is launching a new promotional label with his brother Nick which could be used as a platform for the pair to fight in the future.

And his latest venture could set up a boxing showdown with YouTube star Jake Paul, which could also feature on a card with his brother Nick facing Jake's brother Logan in a historic sibling card.
