Nate Burleson: Russell Wilson ‘one of the most consistent players in NFL history’

The analysts of “Good Morning Football” recently debated whether or not Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s talent is taken for granted. While giving his verdict on Wednesday, NFL analyst and former Seahawks wide receiver Nate Burleson stated Russell Wilson is one of the most consistent players in the history of the league.

“I kept trying to get people to understand that Russell Wilson is one of the most consistent players in NFL history,” Burleson said. “In the first couple of seasons, he brought the Seahawks back to relevance. Russell Wilson said, ‘Wait a minute, guys, we got a pretty damn good football team too.’ And ever since then, he’s been proving people wrong because when he went to those back-to-back Super Bowls, a lot of people said, ‘Alright, this is a good start to your career but let’s see if you can string together consistency.’”

Burleson believes Wilson has achieved that consistency despite not seeing much of it early on, perhaps as a result of adjusting to the NFL and being surrounded by an all-time great defense and powerful running back Marshawn Lynch. Despite this, media pundits did not discuss it to an elevated degree because of different storylines around the league.

“Great defense, great running back annd then all of a sudden, he starts stringing together season after season after season at a high level,” Burleson continued. “I remember a couple seasons ago, he accounted for 36 out of 38 touchdowns on that team. And it was one of those things that we just swept under the rug because there were so many other things and so many other storylines to talk about.”

Wilson has maintained his consistency throughout the first quarter of the 2019 season, throwing for eight touchdowns and no interceptions through four games and helping his team to a 3-1 record. Fans will soon see if he can assist Seattle in snapping a three-game losing streak to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.
