A young British tourist and her Canadian friend have reportedly been found dead in a backpackers’ hostel in Cambodia.
The Foreign Office confirmed it was helping the woman’s family.
Reports have named Briton Natalie Seymour, 22, and 27-year-old Canadian Abbey Gail Amisola as the pair found dead in the Monkey Republic Guest House in the southern Cambodian city of Kampot.
Ms Seymour’s mother Wendy Bowler, of Bedfordshire, told MailOnline her daughter had sent her messages from Cambodia saying she and her friend were feeling unwell, and that they were going to try to sleep it off.
Police had informed her of their deaths at 5am on Tuesday, she said.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Cambodia, and are in contact with the local authorities investigating her death.”
Some five million tourists visited Cambodia in 2016, bringing in about $3bn (£2.28bn) in revenue. An extra 500,000 people on top of that figure were expected in 2017, authorities said earlier this year.
