Natalie Imbruglia says becoming a mum later in life has given her a 'sense of peace'

Natalie Imbruglia says motherhood is the "most incredible thing that’s ever happened" to her.

The 46-year-old used IVF treatment successfully in 2019 and had her baby son, called Max, when she was 44.

Now, the star has spoken about her decision and how she’s got no regrets about becoming a single parent in her 40s.

The Aussie actress and singer revealed to Stellar magazine, "Becoming a parent is the most incredible thing that's ever happened to me. It's something I've wanted to do since I was a little girl."

She added: "t's given me a sense of peace."

Natalie hasn’t revealed the identity of the sperm donor who is father to her son.

Natalie has been in several high-profile relationships, including a romance with pop star Lenny Kravitz and with Friends actor David Schwimmer.

Recently she joked about how she was invited onto the set of the US TV smash sitcom but didn't notice that her then-boyfriend had a crush on his co-star Jennifer Aniston.

She went on to marry pop star husband Daniel Johns but in 2008 after a four-year marriage, they divorced.

In the past, the mum of one, who now splits her time between living in London and Australia, admitted that motherhood "is not for everyone," saying: "It's important to acknowledge all the women out there, including the ones going, ‘Ugh, another mother talking about how happy they are’.” But she knew that she wanted to become a mum, even though the rest of her life was successful.

She told Baby magazine: "Looking back I had lovely friends, had been married, a beautiful home and a career that I was proud of.

"But I'd long been at the point where I knew something was missing and that thing became something I yearned for above anything else."

When Natalie became pregnant she shared images with her followers on Instagram, joking,

“'No I haven't swallowed a watermelon.

“I'm expecting my first child... I'm blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor.'

And once Max was born, straight after her 45th birthday, she said, “My little Max is by far the best birthday present.”
