Natalie Cole dead: Grammy award winning singer dies age 65

The singer Natalie Cole has died aged 65.

Cole, whose father was the iconic jazz singer Nat ‘King’ Cole, passed away in a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday night due to complications from ongoing health issues, her family said.

A statement, read by her son and sisters said: "Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived... with dignity, strength and honour. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain Unforgettable in our hearts forever."

The singer’s 1991 album Unforgettable…With Love won her six Grammys and sold 14 million copies. Other notable songs of Cole's include This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) and Our Love.

A title cut of Unforgettable featured vocals from her late father, who died of lung cancer in 1965.

The singer, who had a history of drug and alcohol problems, battled hepatitis C which led her to undergoing a kidney transplant in 2009.

She is survived by her son Robert.
