Natalie Appleton 'felt bad' for Dave Stewart over Honest film flop

Natalie Appleton and Nicole Appleton starred in flop movie Honest

All Saints star Natalie Appleton "felt bad" for Dave Stewart after their movie Honest flopped at the box office.

The 53-year-old singer made her movie debut in the 1960s crime caper alongside her sister Nicole and their All Saints bandmate Melanie Blatt with Eurythmics star Dave taking the reigns as a director for the first time - however, the film was savaged by critics and made just £111,309 on its opening weekend back in 2000 before it was pulled from cinemas after a week due to low ticket sales. Natalie now admits she felt like she had let Dave down because he faced such a vicious "backlash" over the project.

She told The Independent: "That was genuinely one of the highlights of our early career. I felt bad for Dave once it came out. We were used to backlash and negative attention at that point, but he wasn’t. And I just felt hugely responsible for letting him down."

Nicole Appleton, 51, added: "But we didn’t carry the film with us, like he did. We premiered it at Cannes. We went on these huge yachts, we got to borrow diamonds … It was like being at the Oscars for us, so to me it was a success.

"And I know Dave went through his own grief with it, but he never let us know he was upset. He’s just the most divine person."

In the interview, the sisters also admitted they regretted releasing their 2002 autobiography Together - admitting they didn't write it themselves and it only told around "50 per cent" of their story because so many details had to be cut out for legal reasons.

Natalie said: "I don’t think I ever read it ... We had a ghost writer, who we probably drove crazy. But the whole thing upset me because so much of it, legally, had to be taken out."

Nicole added: "It was only about 50 per cent of what happened. And I feel like if we don’t have full reign over our truth, then what’s the point? Did we even promote it?" and her sister replied: "Promote what? It was barely a book. It was probably a pamphlet."
