NASHIK: A 48-year-old man from Igatpuri, who had gone to take a bath in a stream flowing into the Bhavli dam in Igatpuri, got swept away by the current and drowned on Sunday evening.
His body could be fished out only on Monday morning with the help of volunteers and divers from Mahindra and Mahindra company. The deceased is identified as Sunil Sangle, resident of DGP Nagar, Nashik city.
Igatpuri tehsildar Paremeshwar Kasule said that Sangle works as a supervisor at a construction site at Jamunda near Igatpuri, which is uphill. On Sunday afternoon, Sangle and three of his colleagues had gone for a bath at the stream. The stream leads to the backwaters of the Bhavli dam.
Owing to the strong current of the stream, Sangle slipped and got swept away into the backwaters. Kasule said that the distance between the spot where Sangle was standing and the backwater is only 200 meters. Sangle fell down at least three short cascades.
Continuous rainfall hampered rescue operations and the body was found on Monday morning. A special rescue team from Chandwad was called for the purpose.
