April 02--Kyle Larson was cleared to resume racing in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series after fainting last weekend, his team said Thursday.
The 22-year-old Larson underwent a series of medical tests after he fainted Saturday while finishing an autograph session at Virginia's Martinsville Speedway.
"I just had to get a lot of tests run on me to make sure nothing serious was wrong with me, and all the tests came back negative," Larson told reporters on a conference call. "I feel great right now."
A native of Elk Grove, Larson won the Cup series' rookie-of-the-year honors last year. He drives the No. 42 Chevrolet for the Ghip Ganassi Racing team with Felix Sabates.
Larson said he fainted because he was dehydrated.
"I just rushed myself that morning and didn't take very good care of myself throughout the day and just ended up dehydrating myself," he said.
The tests were "to make sure nothing else was wrong with my body," he said. "It all kind of circled back to just being dehydrated."
Larson is set to climb back in the car at the Cup series' next race April 11 at Texas Motor Speedway. The series is off this weekend.
Larson missed the race at Martinsville last Sunday. Regan Smith took his place and finished 16th in the 43-car field.
