NASCAR's second superspeedway Cup race of 2020 followed a similar pattern as its first one. Just like the Daytona 500 in February, Sunday's race at Talladega was postponed to the following day due to inclement weather.
The race is rescheduled for 3 p.m. ET Monday on Fox.
Lightning near the Alabama track forced a delay before the race started. While under the delay, rain, fog and high-speed winds all hit the superspeedway. Although NASCAR deployed its team of air titans and jet dryers, another rain cell hit the area around 5 p.m., two hours after the race's scheduled start.
NASCAR's policy states that an event should run only if there is a reasonable chance for completion. Given the forecast, NASCAR made the official call at 5:10 p.m. Sunday to postpone the race before firing engines.
This is the fifth of nine Cup Series races to be impacted by inclement weather since the NASCAR season returned amid the coronavirus pandemic in May.
