NASCAR driver responds to Donald Trump’s Bubba Wallace tweet: ‘We did what was right.’

Even after both FBI and NASCAR investigations revealed that driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. was “not the target of a hate crime” at Talladega — that a noose found in his team’s garage had been there since October, 2019 — that didn’t detract from the incredible moment in which fellow drivers and team members walked Wallace’s car to the front of the GEICO 500 field.

Driver Jimmie Johnson said as much last month in a tweet: “I’m still so proud of how our sport came together yesterday.”

In a tweet sent on Monday morning, President Donald Trump asked if Wallace had “apologized” to those drivers and team members, calling the incident a “hoax,” despite the fact it was not a hoax.
