NASA to launch a sounding rocket over the Eastern seaboard

  • NASA is scheduled to launch a sounding rocket from its Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia on Tuesday morning.
  • The launch, expected between 6 and 9 a.m. EDT, may be visible as a “streak of fire” across several Eastern US states.
  • The Terrier-Improved Malemute rocket is projected to reach an altitude of approximately 100 miles before descending into the Atlantic Ocean for recovery.
  • The rocket's payload includes experiments developed by eight university and community college teams participating in NASA's RockSat program.
  • The RockSat program aims to provide students with technical training and hands-on experience for the aerospace industry.
