NASA is creating a PLAYLIST for future moon missions - here's how to submit a song

Anyone who has been on a long road-trip will know that a banging playlist is an absolute essential -alongside a top-notch range of snacks, obviously.

Now, NASA is developing its own playlist for astronauts to listen to during future journeys to the moon , which will last three days each way.

The space agency is calling on the public to help create the playlist, called ‘NASA Moon Tunes,’ and there have already been thousands of suggestions.

NASA said: “Submit your suggestion from June 3-June 28 - the same time frame in which Apollo 11 astronauts were making final preparations for their mission 50 years ago.

The playlist is called NASA Moon Tunes (NASA)

“Liftoff of our playlist will be on July 13 and 14 and will air during a live show on NASA’s Third Rock Radio, just a few days prior to the Apollo 11 launch anniversary!”

To submit a suggestion, simply tweet the song name alongside the hashtag #NASAMoonTunes, or submit via this form .

Despite only being open for a few days, the project has already received thousands of submissions.

Many users have suggested moon-themed songs, including ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, ‘Walking On The Moon’ and ‘Man On The Moon’, while others have gone for a more general space-theme, including ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Starman’ and ‘Supernova’.

Meanwhile, other submissions appear to be unlinked to the moon mission, including The Proclaimer’s ‘I’m Gonna Be’, One Republic’s ‘Secrets’ and the Spice Girls’ classic, ‘Spice Up Your Life.'

NASA claims that its next manned mission to the moon will take place in 2024, but we'll have to wait and see if it meets this deadline.
