NASA captures stunning photo of VOLCANO erupting beneath the Milky Way

A photographer has snapped an incredible photo of a volcano erupting as a meteor shoots over the Milky Way in the skies ahead.

The photo, which is featured as NASA ’s Astronomy Picture of the Day, was snapped by photographer Diego Rizzo in Guatemala.

The volcano featured in the image is the Volcan de Fuego, also known as the ‘Volcano of Fire’.

NASA explained: “On the land of the featured image, the Volcano of Fire (Volcán de Fuego) is seen erupting topped by red-hot, wind-blown ash and with streams of glowing lava running down its side.”

Meanwhile, the central plane of the Milky Way can be seen in the skies above, with a meteor just below and the trail of a satellite to the upper right.

And the stunning astronomical features don't end there.

NASA added: “The planet Jupiter also appears toward the upper left, with the bright star Antares just to its right.”

To snap the incredible image, Mr Rizzo travelled to Fuego’s sister volcano, Acatenango.

Amazingly, much of the land and sky were captured together in a single, 25-second exposure photo.

However, the meteor was captured in a similar frame taken about 30 minutes earlier, and the volcanic eruption was added later digital.
