NASA astronaut shows his final meal on Earth before launching into space tonight

Tonight, NASA and SpaceX will attempt to launch two astronauts into space as part of a historic mission.

The mission will see astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley launched into space on board a Falcon 9 rocket, on a 400 kilometre journey to the International Space Station.

This marks the first time humans have been launched from the US since 2011.

Ahead of tonight’s launch, the astronauts have been bombarded with questions on social media, including their feelings about the launch, and their last meal here on Earth.

Now, Colonel Hurley has revealed his last meal ahead of the launch - steak and eggs, served on a NASA-branded plate.

He tweeted a photo of his last meal, writing: “Steak and eggs. Question answered!”

Several fans replied to wish Colonel Hurley luck on his mission to the International Space Station.

One replied: “Enjoy breakfast sir! And enjoy your flight! You’ve got a million people monitoring the weather for you and Bob.”

Another added: “Enjoy sir... Will be watching from Glasgow Scotland give me a wave as you pass by.”

And one joked: “That's a big breakfast! Make sure you have  that sick bag handy when the zero-g hits.”

The launch is set to take place at 16:33 EDT (21:33 BST) from Kennedy’s Launch Complex 39A.

NASA will be live streaming the launch on its YouTube channel here.
