NARIT snaps 'close-up' of planet Saturn

This picture of Saturn was captured Monday night on a telescope at the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand’s (NARIT) observatory in Chachoengsao province.

The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has released a picture of Saturn captured Monday night, believed to be at its closest position to Earth in 14 years.

The amazingly detailed photo was captured on the Takahashi telescope at NARIT’s Chachoengsao Regional Observatory for the Public.

It shows Saturn’s A and B rings clearly separated, with the Cassini Division between them, said a NARIT press release accompanying the photo.

The website of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology published an article outlining findings from the journey of NASA's Cassini spacecraft that ended Sept 15 with an intentional plunge into the atmosphere of Saturn.

The article is available at jpl.nasa.gov.

The Popular Mechanics magazine website, meanwhile published a news article focused on the data being studied by scientists the Cassini's long flight, particularly how Saturn's rings affect the planet itself by raining methane onto the planet's atmosphere.
