Nara City's famous park was illuminated in a lighting spectacle that started Saturday, giving visitors a fantasy-like scene in the ancient capital. The Shiawase Kairo Nararurie event is being held through Friday.
In an opening ceremony that started around 6 p.m., LED lights in blue, white and other colors spread out like a carpet in the garden of the Nara Kasugano International Forum in Nara Park, with models of its world-renowned deer seemingly floating on the lights.
Nara has seen a reduction in tourists following the outbreak of the new coronavirus. Still, a company employee in his 50s from Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, said, "The lights of various colors match well and are beautiful. I'm glad I came."
The illumination runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and can be seen at the Kofukuji Temple, the Kasugataisha shrine, the Todaiji temple sando (approach road), and other sites.
