Napoli striker 'rejected' Manchester United transfer because of Odion Ighalo

Victor Osimhen's brother claims the Nigerian striker rejected the chance to join Manchester United in the summer window because of his respect towards Odion Ighalo.

Osimhen shone while at Lille last season and was rewarded for his fine form when he secured a massive move to Napoli back in July.

The 21-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League prior to his transfer with United, Liverpool and Tottenham all touted as potential suitors.

Osimhen's brother, Andrew, claims United showed genuine interest in trying to sign the forward earlier this year but he says there was no chance of the move happening while Ighalo remained at the club.

Ighalo and fellow Nigerian Osimhen have a close friendship and according to the striker's brother it was this mutual respect which made him reject a move to Old Trafford.

“It is very true that Manchester United wanted Victor but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague,” Andrew told  Complete Sports.

“My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn’t see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goalscorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”

United agreed a loan extension for Ighalo earlier in the season which will see him remain at the club until the end of January next year.
