Napoli star sends Arsenal warning over their Europa League visit to 'mad wish' Naples

Arsenal are set to face a Europa League opponent obsessed with winning the trophy this season, according to Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne.

Last season, the Italian finished second in Serie A with the club under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri and is again in the hunt for silverware in 2019.

He made his senior debut in January 2010 and over the past nine years he has become one of the leading appearance makers in the history of the Naples-based team.

Despite his long service, he has only won a single Coppa Italia trophy with his hometown club, and as a local talent come good he feels the pressure from fans more than most to deliver more for the jersey.

Arsenal fans' theory about an Everton foul throw in build up to Phil Jagielka's goal is disputed

Napoli's Europa League quarter-final clash with Arsenal presents the Serie A club with an opportunity to get closer to their goals of winning a major trophy and brining it back to Naples.

"I expect to face an Arsenal side with so much quality that I couldn’t choose which is the best," said Insigne, as reported by Football Italia .

"They’ll have tempo, intensity and tactical organisation. We have two complicated games ahead of us and then, if we get there, the semi-finals.

"It won’t be easy, but we are not afraid. If anything, it’s our mad wish."

Insgine has been the target of speculation in recent transfer windows as one of the Europe's most highly-rated wide players.

However, the 27-year-old would prefer to stay and secure success, despite the emotional load on his performances.

"There is more pressure on me, compared to other players, because people expect something more from a Neapolitan at Napoli," he said.

"At times, that responsibility is an energising force with positive effects, but there are moments when it can be counter-productive and therefore negative. We are not machines, remember that, so an off period is inevitable.”

"As long as I am at Napoli, I will always give 110% and I want to stay here for a long time. I also know that I am 28 years old and it can happen, over the course of a career, to receive an offer I can’t refuse. This could happen, yes.

"It irritates me to always arrive on the verge of success and then find myself empty-handed, without a trophy to raise to the sky. This irritates my teammates too, as this Napoli side is so strong and deserves that moment of satisfaction."
