Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has slammed Manchester United for the transfer fee spent on Harry Maguire, by insisting Kalidou Koulibaly is now worth three times as much.
United broke the world transfer record for a defender when they signed England international Maguire from Leicester earlier this week.
The 26-year-old moved to Old Trafford in the final week of the summer transfer window for a fee of £80m, beating the previous record set when Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk.
United had held an interest in signing Napoli centre back Koulibaly in the past, but opted to pursue Maguire during the summer instead.
However, De Laurentiis believes United overpaid for their new defensive signing and says that Koulibaly is worth three times as much as Maguire.
"He has a clause of £150m," he told ESPN. "But, for example, in England, they paid £85m for a player. In Napoli, I would pay £30-£35m.
"With that in mind, I think Koulibaly's value is £250m if they paid that much for that guy."
De Laurentiis then criticised the amount of money being spent in English football, suggesting that Premier League clubs have an unfair advantage in the transfer market.
The Napoli president added: "The problem of the super cost of the players is due to England," he added. "In England, they gross more money than in France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
"If a club grosses £800m, they have no problem to offer around £80m, £90m, £100m for one player. There is not a real good and fair competition between England and the other countries."
