Napoli 'make last-ditch bid' for Arsenal transfer target Gabriel Magalhaes

Napoli have reportedly made a last-ditch bid to tempt Gabriel Magalhaes from the clutches of Arsenal.

The Brazilian defender is set to make a decision on his future in the next week with both clubs in contention.

Lille have already confirmed they will allow Magalhaes to leave and Arsenal were believed to be winning the race.

The Gunners are said to have agreed terms with Magalhaes on a deal that would see him move to The Emirates for £22million.

However according to Sky Sports , Napoli have made a fresh attempt at the 11th hour to convince him on a switch to Serie A.

Napoli have already done some successful business with Lille this summer after landing striker Victor Osimhen.

That would certainly appeal to Magalhaes to have a friendly face in the dressing room, though there are similar pros to joining Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is assembling a small contingent of Brazilian stars in north London, with latest addition Willian joining up with David Luiz and Gabriel Martinelli.

Magalhaes, 22, is thought to be keen on heading to Arsenal to be part of the new regime, but Napoli's offer could leave the star in two minds.

It appears both clubs have matched Lille's valuation, meaning a decision rests solely on Magalhaes' shoulders.

Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed as much in a latest interview.

"We clearly told him what our expectations were, we spoke to a number of clubs, our expectations were met by a number of clubs and we have given him the time to decide," Lopez said.

"It is going to be entirely his decision. We tend to try and steer our players in certain directions, but at the end of the day it's the player's decision."

Arsenal are desperate for defensive reinforcements but the addition of Magalhaes could complete their search, as it would follow the recent arrivals of Pablo Mari and William Saliba to the club.
