Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne makes 'stratospheric' Liverpool claim after Champions League matches

Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne believes his side have become Liverpool’s bogey team over the last few seasons.

The Italian giants inflicted a rare defeat on Liverpool this season when the two met in Naples in the Champions League group stage back in September.

The Reds have only lost two matches so far this campaign - against Napoli, and to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup when the senior players were in Qatar for the Club World Cup.

Defender Dejan Lovren then rescued his side a point after Dries Mertens had opened the scoring in the reverse Napoli fixture in October.

“Every time we meet Liverpool we produce great performances," Insigne told Sky Sports Italia, via the Mail, when asked about the Reds.

“Against them we produce stratospheric performances. We became their bogey side.

“In two games this season we got four points and this leaves us with great satisfaction.

“We left Anfield with a draw that served us well, even if we wanted to advance to the next round with a game to spare.”

The Reds would eventually top their group and will now face Atletico Madrid in the last 16 as they look to defend the trophy they won for a sixth time last summer.
