The rumours linking Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri with a move to Napoli seem to be heating up by the day.
Emerson has impressed at EURO 2020, most recently replacing the injured Leonardo Spinazzola to help Italy overcome Spain in the semi-final.
The 26-year-old has struggled for minutes since joining Chelsea in 2018 and may well leave the club this summer.
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti was asked about his interest in the fullback and his response was accompanied with a laugh.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano sent out a tweet which quoted Spalleti as saying: “I can’t say if I called Emerson to join Napoli or not... maybe yes, maybe it’s happened.”
Despite his game-time being limited, Emerson scored a vital goal against Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 as Chelsea went on to win last season’s Champions League.
The Italian may well taste glory again, this time with his national team, as they face England in the EURO 2020 final.
Chelsea are said to be hoping for a fee of around €25million, with Jose Mourinho weighing up a move for the defender as he prepares for his first season in charge of Roma.
However, after the recent quotes from Spalletti, it looks as though Emerson may well end up playing his football in Napoli next season.
