Napoli 1 PSG 1: Champions League draw sees Liverpool lose top spot in Group C

Liverpool have lost top spot in Group C after Lorenzo Insigne's penalty rescued a 1-1 Champions League draw for Napoli against Paris Saint-Germain at the San Paolo.

Juan Bernat had given the French champions the lead on the stroke of half-time before Insigne's penalty on the hour mark ensured both sides would share the spoils.

There was little to shout about in the first half but Neymar and Kylian Mbappe frightened the Partenpoei defence, and the latter came close with a volley that went inches wide.

But the away side soon found the breakthrough. Mbappe raced down the left, bamboozling Nikola Maksimovic with some sublime skill and slid in Bernat, who bundled home past David Ospina.

Napoli responded after the break and bombarded the PSG goal, with Gianluigi Buffon forced into a string of fine saves to deny Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens.

It was the veteran goalkeeper who cost his side just minutes later, however, when he clattered into Callejon in the penalty area. Referee Bjorn Kuipers pointed to the spot and Insigne coolly found the corner.

PSG sent on former Napoli striker Edinson Cavani late on in search for a winner, but it was Mbappe who scuffed wide when presented with a golden opportunity.

It means Carlo Ancelotti's side go top of the table on the head-to-head record, while Liverpool's fate is now out of their hands after their shock 2-0 defeat to Red Star Belgrade.
