Ghostrunner devs have just announced their new game, Valor Mortis, set in Napoleonic France and featuring a lot of Prototype- and Resident Evil-inspired madness. Information is still scarce, but the reveal trailer certainly had a lot to say.
During the gamescom 2025 pre-show event, we got to see a ton of new games, primarily from smaller studios and indie developers. One of them particularly caught my eye, though—Valor Mortis, a title developed by the same team behind the stellar first-person action series Ghostrunner.
It is set during Napoleonic times, line warfare, winter, and all, but features a monstrous twist straight out of Prototype. The characters turn into grotesque creatures and gain insidious powers after consuming a strange fluid, much like infestation and viruses provide powers in Prototype and Resident Evil. The player, too, makes use of these powers as well, so it's not something limited to NPCs.
It's a first-person title with what appears to be grounded, meaty combat, alongside stomach-churning fun.
It's also coming in 2026 to Xbox Series X and S, and hopefully other platforms down the line.
This is a developing story, with more to come as information becomes available.
