This is the first picture of a woman found stabbed to death in her own home on Valentine’s Day.

Naomi Hunte, 41, was found suffering a single fatal knife injury in her own flat after neighbours heard a loud argument in Woolwich.

One woman living underneath her heard Ms Hunte scream once as a man’s voice rang out from the flat in The Willows, Congleton Grove.

Shocked neighbours said firefighters used axes to break down her door at 8.30pm on Monday.

Others residents were told by police her body could have lay in the flat for several days before being discovered.

NHS worker Borbor Lamin Kabia, 62, said he met Naomi ten years ago when he first moved to the block.

He told the Standard: “I never had a quarrel with her.

“She was very quiet, sometimes she would see you but pretend not to. Other times she would call out your name and say hello.

“I saw lots of people coming and going out. One man came and made trouble. Men are jealous people.

“She was very nice and pretty. She said she had just got a new job in the City but I still saw her hanging around.

“I can’t believe this happened if she was in trouble she could have come to me.”

A woman living below Ms Hunte’s flat told the Standard she heard a woman scream once in the early hours of the morning.

She said: “She is normally very quiet in there and my bedroom is right underneath her.

“There were lots of thuds and then I heard a woman scream just once and then it stopped.

“There was a man’s voice too, I could hear him 100 per cent.

“I didn’t know what to do it was just one scream, if there was lots I would have done something.”

On Wednesday morning, officers guarded her front door with bags of forensic evidence piled up outside.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Standard: “Everyone knows her around here.

“Police told us she had been lying there for at least a couple of days before she was found.

“It’s my worst fear, no one checks up on each other anymore. Everyone is too scared to speak about it. She has been murdered and left there.

“I’ve never felt safe in this block, it’s a complete blind spot for police.”

Another added: “She was a very good neighbour, she’s lived here since she was young. It’s so sad.

“She was living on her own in there. I think she was single but she had boyfriends on and off. Her mother lives nearby.”

Scotland Yard said a post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a stab wound.

Homicide detectives from Specialist Crime are investigating.

There have been no arrests so far and detectives continue to work to establish the circumstances of Ms Hunte’s murder.
