Before brands turned to Instagram and TikTok famous faces to promote their products, there were supermodels. And in the 1990s, no one was more influential (or recognizable) than Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington.

Whether working together or separately, the “supers” covered magazines, fronted fashion campaigns and dominated the runways from New York to Paris. And now, they’re coming to your TV screen.

Apple TV+ has announced the upcoming release of The Supermodels, a documentary series that will chart the rise of each model’s career from the late ‘80s through the ‘90s.

Featuring interviews (and plenty of unforgettable fashion moments) from Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista and Turlington, the documentary series will be directed and executive produced by Academy Award-winner Barbara Kopple.

Though an exact release date has yet to be announced, Campbell Crawford, Evangelista and Turlington (who also serve as executive producers of the project) all took to Instagram to share the news.

“My sisters Christy, Linda, Cindy and I are extremely thrilled to share our story with the world,” Campbell wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of all four women from the 1991 Versace Autumn/Winter show in Milan.

“There could be no better partners than Brian Grazer [and] Ron Howard which is a dream come true to bring it to life, as we knew they would respect and honor our story,” she added of the Imagine Documentaries duo producing The Supermodels.

“We hope our journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world.”

Evangelista similarly shared her excitement, adding, “I would love for people to see this as a celebration of not only our individual stories, but also to the power of friendship, dreams and perseverance."
