Naomi Alderman’s acclaimed novel The Power is being turned into a series for Amazon.
The 2016 science fiction hit, in which teenage girls have the ability to electrocute other people with their hands, will be adapted into a 10-part series, Deadline reported.
In Alderman’s novel (one of Barack Obama’s favourite books of 2017), power dynamics shift once girls take control of their newfound power, with dramatic effects.
“I’m thrilled beyond words that The Power will be broadcast around the world by Amazon,” Alderman told Deadline.
She added: “The story is a global one, about the lives of women and men everywhere in the world, so I’m hugely excited that The Power will be sparking conversation and debate essentially… everywhere. We’re going to make something revolutionary and, dare I say it, electrifying.”
The Handmaid’s Tale director Reed Morano and Broadchurch producer Jane Featherstone are attached to the project.
Alderman is writing the adaptation herself and acting as an executive producer.
The series is expected to go into production later in the year and is set to be offered to Prime Video subscribers.
