Nanoleaf continues to expand their lineup with the new Nanoleaf Lines. What's even more interesting than the new shape is how Lines acts as part of the Nanoleaf ecosystem and in the overall makeup of your smart home.
Let's dive in.
What Is It?
If you have to ask, I can't help you.

But, seriously, Nanoleaf Lines are just that - vibrant LED lights in a line shape that can click into each other at 60-degree angles. What's cool is that each line can display two colors, so you've got a larger variety of color patterns available.
Think neon signs, but without all the rare gases and buzzing.
How Does It Work?
Nanoleaf Lines install simply, sticking on your wall, then clicking together in a pattern of your choosing—though they're all the same length, so if you want to make letters or logos, you'll need to get creative.
Once you sync Lines up with the Nanoleaf app, you have an almost overwhelming number of lighting options available. Each line can display two colors at the same time. They're also compatible with Nanoleaf's motion options, making entrancing patterns of light on your walls.

Lines can be synced to react to the rhythm of your music or mirror what's happening on your screen, providing backdrop lighting that either shifts subtly or reacts quickly.
There are 19 preset lighting scenes in the app, plus 7 different prebuilt rhythm scenes (plus 22 rhythm motion options), and 4 screen mirror modes. But you're not limited to what's already on the app. With over 16 million colors available, you can easily create your own or download lighting scenes created by other users.
Like I said, it's a lot to take in. And that's before the optional face plates come out, letting you make your Lines pink or black instead of white.
But once you map out a pattern and light it, you'll find that it quickly becomes a focal point for whatever room it's in. Plus, you can easily switch up the lighting so that it fits in with your seasonal decor.
What I really appreciate about Lines, however, is how it integrates with your smart home. If you have Nanoleaf Essentials devices in your home, Lines can act as a Thread router, allowing you to connect all your Nanoleaf products to your smart home without any additional hardware. That'll be true for other, non-Nanoleaf, Thread devices in your home as well in a coming update. Nanoleaf is looking towards the future as well, with Matter support coming next year.
Why do you need a Thread router when the whole point of Thread is that you don't need routers? Basically, the more Thread devices you have, the stronger their network in your home, allowing you to boost weak signals and improve reliability.
Nanoleaf is wonderfully system-agnostic. Lines works out of the box with Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTT. So no matter what smart home protocol you're using, you'll be able to integrate Lines.
Where Can I Get It?

You can get a starter pack of Lines for $200, which includes nine Lines and the connector hub. Additional packs of Lines containing three lines each, is $80. Pre-orders start on the Nanoleaf site today and products will ship in November, just in time for holiday decorating.
