Nani sends plea to Man Utd fans after Bruno Fernandes completes transfer

Former Man Utd winger Nani has urged the club's fans to be patient with new signing Bruno Fernandes.

The Red Devils completed the £67.8million transfer of Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon after months of tracking the 26-year-old.

And he could be thrown straight into United's starting lineup against Wolves on Saturday, having been involved in his first training session on Friday.

But Nani has issued a word of caution to the Old Trafford faithful, that his Portuguese compatriot may not hit the ground running.

"Hi guys, quick message to everyone at Manchester, Old Trafford, all the fans," Nani said in a video on United's Twitter page. "Just wishing good luck to Bruno Fernandes, who just moved to Manchester, and ask you guys to give him good support.

"Have a little bit of patience for his adaptation in the team. For sure he will prove his qualities, he’ll score beautiful goals."

Fernandes arrives at Old Trafford with a decent track record, having scored 13 goals in 22 appearances this season.

But despite the anticipation around the midfielder, ex-England striker Peter Crouch thinks there is still a risk the transfer may not go to plan.

After claiming a number of big-name players have gone "backwards" at United, Crouch told the Mail: "Another question would be how many have actually improved after joining one of the world’s biggest clubs [United]?

"It is not wrong to say not one of them did. Some went backwards.

"I would love to see Fernandes buck the trend. I have watched him play for Portugal during the last 12 months and I believe he has got the star quality to be a huge presence for United.

"But until we see firm evidence, the element of doubt around this transfer will remain."

United also completed the deadline day signing of Odion Ighalo on loan, but the striker is not expected to feature against Wolves.
