Nandos to reopen seven city-centre restaurants for NHS workers and charities

We’ve been mourning the loss of some top fast food eateries and takeaways since they were forced to close due to Coronavirus - McDonalds, Pret, Greggs, the big boys. We’ve tried creating our own at home but nothing really tastes the same. Probably because we have to wash up after.

But now, Nandos is set to reopen seven restaurants to cook food for local NHS workers and charities but sadly, not yet for customers.

Sorry, you might have to wait a little longer for your Peri-Peri fix.

Around 1,700 free meals each day will be provided for NHS staff, key workers at local hospitals and charities.

The restaurants include four in London, two in Manchester and one in Dublin and workers will operate behind closed doors exclusively for NHS staff and local charities.

Food will be dropped off directly at hospitals every evening between 6pm and 9pm and each restaurant will work under strict health and safety measures while maintaining social distancing. Each restaurant team are looking to cook up to 250 meals a shift before delivering them every evening to those who need them most.

Knowing how much happiness Peri-Peri can bring, the Nando ’s team were itching to get back behind the grills to help as many people as possible during the lockdown so stay tuned.

Nando’s has offered a 20% NHS discount for over 20 years and discounted Peri-Peri is enjoyed by NHS workers over 1.5 million times every year. Previously, before closing operations, Nando’s donated 20,000 free meals to NHS workers and has kept in touch with local NHS teams to work out how best to help them during this difficult time.

This will be the first time that Nando’s has opened its kitchens since closing on 23rd March following the government’s plea for everyone to Stay Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives.

The initiative is part of Nando’s longstanding commitment to make our restaurants important parts of every community and with that in mind any spare food left at the end of the day will be donated to charity through Nando’s No Chuckin’ our Chicken initiative, which has donated more than 1.5 million meals since it started in 2013.

If this controlled reopening proves successful, then we hope to be able to continue to deliver food to our No Chuckin Our Chicken charities and NHS teams as the trial expands.

Every single Nando’s restaurant works with a unique charity, over 420 across the UK and Ireland, supporting all kinds of causes, including youth, homelessness, refugees, and women and family shelters.

Still missing your takeaway fix though? Fear not as there are still some other restaurants open for takeaway orders and right now, you can get a   free Just Eat takeaway with TopCashback.

TopCashback   will refund 100% of the purchase order value up to £15 cashback on takeaway orders purchased on the Just Eat site.

Sadly this offer is only available for new members with no previous purchases.

The Nandos stores reopening:

  • London - Clink Street, Camberwell, Canary Wharf (Jubilee Place) and Gloucester Road
  • Manchester - Fallowfield and Printworks
  • Dublin – St Andrews Street
