Nando’s to launch its first ever plant-based ‘chicken’ dishes – but they won’t be vegan

Popular chicken-centric restaurant chain Nando’s has announced it will launch its first ever plant-based, meat-alternative dish this week.

From tomorrow, the restaurant group will serve “The Great Imitator” on the “Burgers, Pittas and Wraps” section of its menus, a chicken-resemblant filling made with pea protein.

The plant-based dishes will be flavoured with Nando’s “peri-peri” marinade, and diners will still be able to choose their desired level of spiciness.

While the product itself is meat and animal product-free, it will be cooked on the same grills as the chain’s chicken products, and is therefore not categorised as vegan.

Take it away: The Great Imitator dishes will also be availabe for home delivery

The filling will, however, be served in burgers, wraps and pittas with vegan “peri-naise” sauce, a plant-based alternative to mayonnaise. The new sauce will also be available as a condiment alongside its sweet potato wedges.

The product will be available at all Nando’s locations across the country, for dine-in, collection and delivery.

The Great Imitator will be available at Nando’s restaurants from October 13. For more information, visit nandos.co.uk
