Nando's makes cheeky dig at Wagatha Christie showdown in new menu announcement

Nando's has long earned its reputation as the home of the UK's most loved peri-peri chicken - but it turns out the restaurant has a fiery sense of humour, too.

Foodies have been left in stitches after the chain made a cheeky dig at the notorious Wagatha Christie showdown in its new menu announcement.

Sharing the news of its summer menu on Twitter - and three tasty new additions - Nando's mimicked THAT Coleen Rooney tweet.

The team at @NandosUK wrote: "For a few years now, someone who we trusted to follow on our personal Instagram account has been consistently informing THE WORLD of our private menu items and stories.

Nando's announced new menu additions, includings its pepper and feta dip (Nando's)

"There has been so much information give to them about us, our friends and our menu items - all without our permission or knowledge.

"After a long time of trying to figure out who it could be, for various reasons, we had a suspicion.

"To try and prove this, we came up with an idea. We blocked everyone from viewing our Instagram stories except ONE menu item. (Those on my private account must have been wondering why we haven't had stories posted on there for a while now.)

"Over the past five months, we have posted a series of stories to see if they made their way into the world. And you know what, they did! The story about Garlic BBQ returning and then the latest story about Fully Loaded Chips.

"It's been tough keeping it to ourselves and not making any comment at all, especially when the stories have been leaked, however we had to. Now we know for certain which account/ individual it's come from.

"We have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one menu item.

"It's......... Pepper & Feta Dips' account."

The cheeky announcement delighted fans (Nando's/Twitter)

As most social media users will recognise, Nando's mimicked the wording of the now-infamous tweet Coleen Rooney shared before she won her High Court battle with Rebekah Vardy.

Reacting to the tongue-in-cheek post, and the three dishes it announced, fans were quick to congratulate the restaurant chain.

"This is the most hilarious marketing I've seen in a minute," said one.

"Brilliant," said a second, and someone commented: "SCREAMING." But another replied: "This is dreadful banter, it really is." "Tragic," a different viewer agreed.

Elsewhere, the jokes rolled in thick and fast. Someone quipped: "Alright Agatha Chickstie, calm down."

Taking a similar approach, a second said: "Nagatha Christie, Nangatha Christie, something like that."

The three new menu items are now available, much to the delight of fans who dubbed the additions a "dream come true."
