Nando's axe popular menu items leaving chicken fans spitting feathers

Nando's fans have taken to social media to profess their dismay at the popular chain's decision to cut some favourites from their menu.

For those who like something other than chicken, the fillet steak and chargrilled vegetable wrap is the first item scrapped - the pitta version has also been removed from the menu.

But the decision to get rid of the sweet potato mash - which has been a firm fan favourite for quite some time - appears to have caused the biggest uproar, reports Manchester Evening News.

The butternut squash edition of sweet potato mash has also been removed, as well as being able to add feta to a dish, which has been a menu extra for a number of years.

A Nando's spokesman said: "We have removed sweet potato mash from our menu, along with sweet potato and butternut squash, feta, fillet steak and chargrilled veg and mango and lime spice, in order to add newness for our customers.

"Passionfruit and mango has replaced mango and lime, new seasonal sides will change with each new menu and we have also added ‘vegan’ PERinaise."

The announcement from Nando's has seen quite a backlash from fans online, with many displaying their disdain for the decision on social media.

One person said: "Went to @NandosUK yesterday. Placed my order and the guy at the till said 'we've stopped doing sweet potato mash'. One of the worst days of my life!!!!"

"This has really disappointed me! Screw you Nando’s, screw you!! #nandosuk," blasted somebody else.

"@NandosUK why oh why would you get rid of sweet potato mash which has been on the menu for years. It is a staple product for so many of your customers. #bringbacksweetpotatomash," demanded another Twitter user.

Another tweeeted: " @NandosUK what the hell are you playing at, getting rid of the sweet potato mash??! I was genuinely offended when I got to the till and was told it wasn’t on the menu, distraught, actually in bits. I can’t believe you’ve done this to me!"

Nando's responded to the tweet, writing: "Hey, unfortunately all good things must come to an end. We like to keep our menu fresh and exciting but we do apologise if this happens to affect one of your favourite items. We'll certainly pass your feedback onto our Food team for consideration!"
