Nando's announces changes to in every single restaurant in the UK

When you visit Nando's it's likely you know your order before even looking at the menu.

But every so often the Portuguese chain likes to spice things up by adding a couple of new additions to keep it interesting.

And the restaurant's newest addition could be one of its most interesting yet, as Nando's has finally added a meat substitute to its offerings.

Nando's  first-ever plant-based meat alternative is called the Great Imitator’, and has been designed to taste, look and smell just like its famous PERi-PERi chicken breast fillet.

It's made with PERi-PERi-infused Pea Protein, and is part of  the restaurant chain’s focus on positive change and sustainability drive across the business.

Speaking about the new menu changes, Dawn Carr, Director of Vegan Corporate Projects, PETA, says: "PETA is delighted to have played a part in Nando's journey to putting this delicious plant-based chicken on the table. Nando's can't guarantee zero risk of cross-contamination, so it's not calling it vegan, but as all the ingredients in the burger and pitta versions are completely animal-free – right down to the mayo – we say these are an excellent choice for vegans, vegetarians, meat-reducers, and chickens. Cluck yes!"

But the good news doesn't stop there, as the Great Imitator isn’t the only new item coming to the October Nando’s menu.

From October 13, fans of the chicken chain will be able to order Sweet Potato Wedges with Garlic PERinaise - with 10p from each purchase going to Nando’s Fighting Marlia.

Garlic PERinaise is also now available as a condiment, along with PERi BBQ for fans of PERi Tamer.

The Great Imitator and Sweet Potato Wedges with Garlic PERinaise will both be available to all flexitarian and PERi-PERi fans across restaurants and delivery nationwide from Tuesday 13 October.
