Nan who fell outside Wetherspoons has message for staff

A Merseyside grandmother has a message for Wetherspoon staff after falling and hurting her head outside the pub.

Mary Kinving, 87, was outside the Wild Rose on Stanley Road, Bootle, to get a taxi on Tuesday (August 24).

Mary says she fell over due to having hold of "heavy" bottles of milk.

She hurt her head when she fell, and says she had a long wait for an ambulance. After a while, she ended up going to hospital in a police car.

Mary told the ECHO : "I was unfortunate to have a fall outside of Wetherspoons.

"I do not drink but was heading for a taxi. I had two heavy bottles of milk which overbalanced me. I cracked my head on the pavement.

"People were very kind, and the staff from Wetherspoon were marvellous. There was at least a two hour wait for an ambulance so police car took me to Aintree A&E at 4pm."

Mary also says her niece, Michelle, ran "all the way" from Keble Road to come and help her.

She continued: "The police were lovely, too. There are still some very caring people around."

Merseyside Police confirmed a woman was taken to Aintree Hospital in a police car.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson told the ECHO : “We are sorry that Ms Kinvig was waiting longer than she would have liked for help to arrive, in what must have been an anxious time.

"We received the call at 3.07pm and at that time we had 90 active calls waiting in Merseyside alone.

“We prioritise the most life-threatening incidents first, which can mean less urgent patients are waiting longer than we would like. An ambulance was allocated but the police contacted us shortly after at 4.16pm to say that they were able to transport Ms Kinvig to hospital.

“We would like to wish Ms Kinvig well and hope she has a swift recovery.”

The headline and second paragraph of the original version of this article wrongly stated that Ms Kinving had been in the Weatherspoons pub. We are sorry for any embarrassment caused by the error.
