Nan's McDonald's trip ends in 'agony' as couple see her 'struggling' in street

A nan who was struggling in pain trying to walk was helped by two "angels" after they saw her struggling and came to her aid.

Donna Keech, 56, had been out with her granddaughter Esmee, nine, on Saturday evening.

A carer for the past 37-years, the St Helens nan has for the last few months been unable to walk far without the aid of a mobility scooter due to arthritis in her knee.

Donna told the ECHO : "The mobility scooter I was using I could see the battery was getting nearer to conking out.

"My granddaughter who was with me at the time wanted to go to McDonalds and this is why we used up more battery than we should have.

"On the way home I ended up having to get off it and the pair of us had tried to push it."

Donna said she had to stop as she was "in agony" and was unable to bear weight on her knee.

A woman coming out of Home Bargains spotted the nan and granddaughter struggling to get home.

Donna said: "This lady, who I called an angel, came to me and said, 'I can see you're struggling there.'

"I said yes, and she asked me how far I had to go. I told her it wasn't far but it seems like miles as I was in so much pain.

"She said her husband was parked nearby and I could see they had an estate car.

"I said I didn't want to put her out of her way, and she said, 'No, he can lift your scooter into the back and we can drop you off if you like?

"I should have asked them their names but I was in so much pain I couldn't think properly.

"They dropped me and my granddaughter off and I thanked them for their kindness.

"He even lifted my scooter out for me and set it all back up, and said, 'are you okay now or do you need help to get into your house?'

"I thanked him and told him I would be fine and they drove off."

After realising she didn't know their names, Donna uploaded a post on a St Helens Facebook group in the hope that they would see it and realise how much their actions were appreciated.

The post received over 700 likes and comments from people praising the couple for their kindness.

One person posted: "Brilliant news - there are some caring people. That is so kind xx".

A second commented: "That's proper St Helens people who are caring, nice people out there, good on you".

A third said: "So nice, restores your faith in humanity. x".

While another posted: "Makes me feel so happy when this happens. We still have some kind and considerate people around."
