Nan outraged at 'Big Boy' 'sexually explicit' sweets on sale in shop

A nan called the police after seeing "pornographic sweets" on sale at a sweetshop.

Susan Radford visited the shop with her grandchildren at the start of half term and was outraged by what she found.

Susan said the "sexually explicit" sweets were "within children's reach" at the store in Bridlington.

She described them as multicoloured "foot-long" rock sweets shaped like male genitalia, Hull Live reports.

The sweets were variously titled 'Rock C***' and 'Big Boy'.

Susan, from Yorkshire, said: "Why should children be getting exposed to that?"

"Don't put them on the seafront in a big twirly-coloured rock shop."

The nan, who was a nurse for 36 years before working at York Racecourse, said she didn't approach the shop at the time and hasn't found contact details since.

She said: "I was going to tell them off but the girls behind the counter were only about 15 or 16 years old."

Susan has, however, contacted a number of different outlets in the last few days to see if the "pornographic sweets" can be removed.

These include Trading Standards, the council, Greg Knight MP's secretary and even the police.

She said: "The police got quite shirty and said it isn't against the law, so there's nothing they can do about it.

"My point is that it would not be ok if kids were taken to a pornographic shop where that sort of thing may be expected, so why is it ok to have that in a sweet shop on the seafront?"

"When I was young, they'd have been interested, but now it seems anything goes."

She has also contacted a local Anglican church and a rival rock sweet store in Bridlington to share her outrage.

The grandma plans to not visit Bridlington again because of the experience.

She said: "I don't want to go there.

"Don't buy sweets in this Bridlington shop because of what you will be confronted with.

"I'm not giving up."
