Birthdays are exciting when we're kids. What presents will we get? What surprises are in store?
But as we get older, there's nothing we dread more than the countdown to the big day.
And it appears one elderly woman has well and truly had enough.
Mal was celebrating his nan's birthday along with a number of other family members when she came out with a brutally honest request.
The 20-year-old posted the video to TikTok, where he's known as @maljayc, which he captioned: "We wasn't expecting this at all."
In the clip, that has been viewed 5.3 million times, the woman can be seen sitting on the sofa with a cupcake in hand, poised to make her birthday wish.
But as she blows out the candle she says: "I wish I was dead."
It took a second or two for the family to register what she had wished for before they burst into laughter.
Someone can then be heard saying: "I was just about to cheer!"
Since being posted, the video has been liked 650,000 times and has received almost 22,000 comments from stunned viewers.
One person said: "Old people have no filters - bless her."
Another wrote: "But wait, wishing out loud would make it not come true, so she chose immortality."
"Amazing! Reminds me of when my granny announced at her 96th bday party, 'thank you all for coming, hopefully, this will be my last,'" added a third.
And another put: "She is a mood haha."
