Naming rights to historic Merseyside football stadium go on sale

The naming rights for a historic Merseyside football stadium have just gone on sale.

Southport FC said they would "welcome discussions" with potential investors to rename the stadium and the Main Stand.

Previously called The Pure Stadium, the name was scrapped after sponsors Pure Legal announced they had gone into administration last year. However, the club said they are holding out for the "right partner".

Southport FC are enjoying a successful season and find themselves within touching distance of a playoff spot in the National League North. Last week Southport FC chairman Ian Kyle issued a rallying call for local businesses to support the club as they chase promotion.

Mr Kyle said the Sandgrounders have been hit hard financially by the impact of the pandemic, and were working to regain the levels of corporate support they enjoyed before the lockdown in 2020.

Southport FC head of commercial Steve Dewsnip said: “Naming rights for our Southport Football Club stadium are available. Many companies have recognised the value of associating their brands with football clubs’ stadia – now is your chance to do the same.

“On the corporate side, we are delighted to have attracted some new sponsors this season. As always, the directors remain open to discussions about additional investment into the club. For the right partner, we still have a stadium naming rights opportunity.

"We have a naming rights opportunity for the Main Stand as well. Over the past year, we have had discussions with several potential partners. However, for various reasons, these have not yet materialised. We would welcome discussions with any interested parties.”
