AIZAWL: The names of 1,259 Bru electors have been deleted from Mizoram's voter list following their enrolment in Tripura's electoral roll to date, Mizoram joint chief electoral officer David Liansanglura Pachuau said here on Sunday.
Pachuau told TOI that the inclusion of Bru voters, who have decided to permanently settle in Tripura, in the electoral roll of the neighbouring state has been a continual process. "The Brus, who were enlisted as voters in Mizoram but had already settled in Tripura in accordance with the quadripartite agreement of January 2020, are being enrolled in Tripura's electoral register. Their names were communicated to the Mizoram election department through ERONet," he said, adding those names were immediately and automatically deleted from Mizoram's electoral roll. More than a thousand applications from the Bru residents have been pending as it was not an easy task to entertain such a large number of people expeditiously and the process could not be sped up, he said.
