Name revealed for Glasgow's new city centre Wetherspoons pub

The name has been revealed for Glasgow's new city centre Wetherspoons pub.

Situated in the premises vacated by the former Central Bar in Glasgow Central Station, the new pub will be called The Dugald Drummond, according to the Wetherspoon Appreciation Society website.

The website notes that planning approval was granted on July 20, 2018 for the new venue within the station - on the first floor above Boots and M&S Simply Food near the Hope Street entrance -  with the drinks licence approved on June 21 of this year.

The name of the pub pays homage to Dugald Drummond, the Ardrossan-born steam locomotive engineer and founder of the Glasgow Railway Engineering Company, who was born in 1840 and lived until 1912.

Meanwhile, as we announced back in August, Wetherspoons have also submitted plans to turn the former Waverley Tea Rooms in the southside of the city into a pub.

The pub chain have 10 premises at present in Glasgow, including The Esquire House in Anniesland and The Counting House in George Square.
