A fire broke out and raged through a mattress factory in Nakhon Pathom's Sam Phran district for several hours Sunday, before it was contained. There were no reports of injuries.
Dozens of firemen and more than 50 fire trucks were mobilised to control the flames consuming the factory located in Soi Raikhing 30. Initial damage was estimated at 100 million baht.
The factory was said to manufacture and supply mattresses and bedding materials for Lotus Mattress Co.
According to police, the blaze erupted when the factory workers were about to start their morning shift. The blaze spread quickly due to flammable materials stored at the facility and forced workers to flee to safety.
The evacuated factory workers and people who live nearby were told to steer clear of the fire-gutted facility out of concern that parts of the structure might collapse due to severe damage.
