Naked Soup: Iconic Glasgow west end venue serving coffee in the morning and whisky at night

Naked Soup lays a strong claim to being regarded as a west end institution.

In 2019, one of our writers proclaimed it as their favourite coffee shop in the city and we're sure they aren't alone in saying so, commeting: "It's chilled out, the music's peachy, they've got a bangin' outside area for when the sun is out - and oh, yeah, the coffee is smooth, round, nutty and creamy. Unlike the vinegar a lot of these hipster places seem to be going for these days."

Having first opened way back in 2005, The Kersland Street spot has been run by two Glasgow brothers, Josh and Daniel, since 2015. However, over lockdown, they've shaken things up a little and now, having taken inspiration from the 'cafebars' of Europe, Naked Soup is specialising in serving excellent espresso in the mornings while pouring whisky and wine at night.

Speaking to Glasgow Live about the May relaunch, they explained: "We’re two local brothers who have been running Naked Soup for the last seven years. The second lockdown gave us lots to time to rethink what we were doing and gave us the appetite to do this.

"After traveling around Europe over the last few years, we’ve always been inspired by the local cafebar - somewhere you can grab an espresso in the morning and a whisky at night. We always wanted to create our version at 6 Kersland Street."

Described now as a 'cafe, bar and hideout', open seven days a week from 10am to 10pm since the relaunch in May, the west end eatery now serves the likes of soup, scrumptious sandwiches, noodles bowls as well as those famous bagels, while also inviting in Glaswegians for organic wines, cocktails and a wide selection of Scotland's best whiskies at night, when it's all about the ambience.

The brothers continued: "People can expect good coffee, wholesome soup and stacked bagels during the day. At night, the lights are dimmed, candles are lit and jazz and 90s hip hop music are played throughout the evening to create a cosy atmosphere on the corner of Kersland Street.

"We’ve had great fun so far and looking forward to building it. Our staff our great and we’ve lots of positive feedback.

"We really want to create a hideout for our local community."
