Naked man arrested in Cambuslang street

Residents of a quiet Cambuslang housing estate were shocked when a naked man knocked on their doors late last Thursday night.

The unclothed Asian male – who was described by locals as “hysterical” – chapped on the front doors of detached and semi-detached properties on Plantation Grove, just before midnight.

Astonished residents were too afraid to open their doors and minutes later the naked man was grabbed and bundled away by two other men, one of whom told onlookers: “Don’t worry about it. He’s drunk”.

Police later swooped on the house the man had been taken to, smashing in the front door to gain entry.

A shocked witness told the Reformer how the incident unfolded on the usually quiet street where properties sell for more than £300,000.

He said: “The man was hysterical, I think he might have been drunk, or on drugs.

“He was running around naked, chapping doors and even jumping onto cars. That’s just not normal behaviour, and at that time of night, almost midnight, it was really frightening for folk.

“People were obviously scared and a few phoned the police.

“You just don’t expect to witness that sort of thing in a residential area.”

Residents of Plantation Grove, initially thought that the man may have been a victim of human trafficking and had been trying to escape.

The man continued: “The neighbours thought that people were possibly being trafficked for sex or made to  work in nail bars.

“We all thought that there was something dodgy going on when this happened.”

However, Inspector Stephen McManus quashed these claims, stating that there was no evidence of people trafficking in the property.

He told the Reformer: “At 11.40pm last Thursday, officers attended the report of an ongoing disturbance  in Plantation Grove, Cambuslang.

“As a result, one male was arrested due to his disorderly conduct.

“Further enquiries were made at an address in Plantation Grove, with  a further male being charged with a drugs offence.

“Protecting people at the risk of harm is a priority for Police Scotland  and in response to this incident we liaised with Partner Agencies including the Home Office.

“I am aware of previous comments made and would like to reassure residents and the local community as a whole that this incident was a disturbance following a houseparty which has resulted in two males being reported to the Procurator Fiscal and no wider concerns identified.”
