Nailsea School students will not return to class this year after new Covid case

Students at Nailsea School have been forced into isolation in the last week of the school term - after a student tested positive for Covid-19.

Parents were alerted early today that a student in year 11 had tested positive for the virus.

Students in year 11 are now being advised to self isolate for the next 10 days, meaning they now won’t return to class this term.

A spokesman for the school said: “We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for COVID 19.

“The notification that a student in Year 11 had tested positive was received by the school at 7.05am this morning.

“This has resulted in the Year 11 bubble isolating for a period of 10 days.

“The parents of Year 11 students have received further details this morning in a separate letter.

“Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.”

Hundreds of students at the school have been forced into self isolation since returning to class at the beginning of September.

The entire year 8 group was asked to self isolate following a case last month.

A teacher also tested positive for the virus in November, with contacts being asked to stay at home.

Earlier in November, there was also a positive case in the year seven group, forcing a number of students to self isolate.

Just over a week ago year 10 students were asked to self isolate after a classmate tested positive for the virus.
