Demand for speedy manicures and make-up has helped beauty chain Nails Inc record a polished sales performance, new accounts showed on Friday.

The Mayfair-headquartered firm, which makes nail varnish and has manicure bars within department stores such as Harvey Nichols, saw turnover rise to £16.7 million from £13.8 million in the year to June 2018.

Pretax profits rose to £382,515 from £42,647.

Bestsellers during the period included its £15 45-second top coat varnish.

The firm also has a make-up division, INCredible, which it launched in 2017. INCredible had “robust growth” throughout the year. Its products include lip glosses, eyeshadows and face masks.

Nails Inc, founded by former Tatler journalist Thea Green in 1999, said it has seen some concessions close within struggling retailers Debenhams and House of Fraser.

It is looking for international growth in Japan and the US this year, as well as a boost in online sales.
