Nailbiting footage shows people ignoring warnings as Storm Ciara pounds Liverpool

Videos have appeared to show people who ignored all the warnings and risked their safety as Storm Ciara hit Liverpool.

High winds sent giant waves crashing onto the waterfront this morning, as the city was lashed with very heavy rain.

The ferries were all cancelled as the coast line from New Brighton to Crosby was hit with a barrage of waves.

The Met Office had warned that the storm could pose a threat to life, but that did not some thrill seekers appearing to get far too close to the waves today.

One film clip showed three women on a sea wall near New Brighton, as large waves crashed around them. Water was seen gushing across the floor of the sea wall.

The women appeared to laugh off the danger but eventually left the exposed section of wall due to the atrocious conditions.

In a second clip in a jogger was seen running down the promenade in Crosby as giant waves crashed around him. The runner seemed oblivious to the danger.

The Friends of Crosby beach posted a message on social media which read: "We have own 'brave soul' in Crosby. Problem we have here is that strong waves carry bits of bricks from our 'WW2 rubble beach' and throw them on the Promenade, so you see the problem here."

RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station has warned people to stay away from the coast during the storm.

A spokesman said: "Stay a safe distance from the shore – the sea can be unpredictable. Stay back, stay high, stay dry – don’t risk your life for a good photo. If you see someone in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

RNLI Liverpool said:  "Let’s hope our volunteers are not called out today. Stay safe everyone listen to advice."
