Nail clipper removed from eight-month-old's throat after he swallowed it while playing

An eight-month-old boy had to have a nail cutter surgically removed from his throat - after he swallowed the tool by mistake. Photos show numerous doctors desperately trying to remove the clippers.

The incident unfolded in Nashik district in Western India on Monday. The small infant swallowed a 5cm nail cutter while he was playing.

He was immediately taken to hospital once his parents had noticed what had happened. Medics then took X-rays to see what needed to be done.

One incredible image clearly shows the contraption lodged in the baby's neck. The clippers almost block the tot's entire throat.

The youngster was referred to specialists after it was decided more expertise was needed to treat him. He was taken to Pawar Medical College in Adgaon, India where surgery was carried out.

The tot was operated on for an hour as doctors painstakingly tried to remove the device. They finally managed to get the clippers out.

The child survived his ordeal. He is now doing well following the procedure.
