Nail biting clip shows mum and child 'picking blackberries' next to train tracks

A mum and child were caught walking along the side of the train tracks in a nail biting video sparking concern for their safety.

The pair were said to be "foraging" or "picking blackberries" on the loose gravel by the railway line in Melbourne, Australia.

They are seen sifting through the bushes during the 19-second clip which was taken on January 29 and shared on reddit.

"Mother and child foraging on live train tracks near Melbourne Zoo," the post read.

The incident was said to take place along the Upfield train line which runs past Melbourne Zoo in Parkville, Melbourne.

Viewers were shocked at how potentially dangerous the woman's actions were with many speculating that she was picking blackberries.

Others criticised the behaviour as "insane" or "silly" with one insisting "taking a kid isn't smart."

"Not only is that very stupid and dangerous, they also would have caused all trains to come to a stop in the area until the police came to remove them causing even more disruptions," one person commented.

"It's worth noting people who aren't supposed to be near the track can give drivers quite a fright regardless of their intentions," another posted.

One person, who claimed they had Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC) training, said the woman's actions would cause rail authorities to treat it as a high risk situation.

"Unauthorised persons in the corridor would almost certainly halt all trains in the line," they commented.

"SARC training, among others, and a Protection Officer are mandatory in pretty much every situation inside what’s referred to as the Danger Zone beyond the yellow line on a platform.

"I think you’d likely be charged trespassing."

They added: "Rail safety is no joke. All rail authorities would treat this as a high risk situation."
